SlicKnives has created our line of standard ferro rods to offer everything our customers might need from a simple replacement without a shock cord for those that would like to continue using the shock cord originally provided with their knife, to brightly colored cord options for higher daytime visibility, and to include reflective cord choices to make it a bit easier to find the ferro rod using a flashlight after dark.

Simply the SlicKest Camp Knife Around
by Brendon Brigham on Dec 18, 2024
As I shared in an earlier post, I’ve always been a fan of Horace Kephart’s sheath knife – it’s simply a wonderful blade profile that performs many tasks well. While the original versions and many of today’s replicas use high carbon steel, I wanted to create a version in from a more corrosion-resistant steel to help keep maintenance at a minimum.

I’m personally fond of using SlicKnives’ large belt sheath dangler during cooler weather to help position my knife lower than my warm layers. It drops the sheath about 5” lower than the belt and comes in handy when I need to access my blade quickly while all bundled up. I also appreciate that it’s made from the same matching leather as my knife sheath.

Effective Large Fixed Blade Lanyards
by Brendon Brigham on Dec 13, 2024
Lanyards can be as complex as you want to make them – I prefer simple, effective solutions in everything that I do. Simple Sweeping Hollow Ground Blade
by Brendon Brigham on Dec 04, 2024
Years ago, I was fishing with a friend that was wise in the ways of historical blades and his preference to clean trout was to use a simple straight back blade with a long sweeping curved edge for precise, smooth cuts. He taught me that his heavily-patinaed unmarked carbon steel blade with a simple wood handle was called a classic roach belly profile and was a design that’s been around for a long time dating all the way back to the colonial period.
