Hunting Memories
Thanks for swinging by – I appreciate it!
I’m completely spoiled by living in Colorado. Our vast public land provides amazing big game hunting opportunities and I’ve been fortunate enough to get out in the high-country in pursuit of deer and elk over the last couple of decades.
I didn’t grow up hunting as a kid and was introduced to it by my father-in-law over 25 years ago. I had the good fortune to join him on a hunt as a spectator shortly after I married his daughter and we moved to Colorado. After his successful hunt that first time and every hunt since, I’ve had great respect for the fair chase challenge, the animals’ abilities in the wild (whether we harvested one, or not), and the multi-generational family tradition of processing the meat that ensued after our successful hunts together. I couldn’t complete my hunter’s safety course fast enough after that first time I tagged along!
My father-in-law is a successful outdoorsman and we’ve been quite fortunate to harvest many deer and elk together over the last two and half decades. I’m always impressed by the majesty of a big ol’ muley buck and I’m always reminded just how large an elk really is after we walk up on it after getting one down. As all hunters know, this is the moment when the real work begins.
I’ve always wanted to design a solid fixed blade based on our experiences and the Hunter 5 is the design that I came up with to aid in field dressing and processing our larger North American game. I started with designing a 5” drop point blade profile with a long swooping belly, slightly raised spine, and full, ergonomic grip to ensure that it’s up to the task. I wanted this knife to be tough enough to avoid failure while out in the field and to be large enough to help handle the processing once back home. I wanted a tough corrosion-resistant steel that could hold a good edge and be easy to strop or touch up while out in the boonies to keep going until the job is done. And I wanted a knife tough enough to handle a survival situation if something didn’t quite go to plan.
The Hunter 5 fits the bill outlined above and more – check out its specs and details today!
I absolutely cherish the hunting memories that I’ve had the opportunity to glean through the years and I imagine that all the other hunters out there probably do, too. I encourage all experienced hunters that have similar memories to invite a non-hunter along with you on your next hunt, so that you can help introduce someone new to the idea of stepping into the woods each Fall. If we all work to help spread the word about how rewarding hunting can be, we’ll bring new hunters into the field for generations to come.
For those that give the Hunter 5 a try, I hope that it serves you well and helps make your harvest a bit easier to handle while you’re building new hunting memories!
Thank you,Brendon
