The ClipPoint 4.5 is Available Today

Thanks for swinging by – I appreciate it!

The historical clip point knives that were used during the westward expansion of the early-to-mid-1800’s through the early 1900’s were functionally tough and extremely common to find in everyone’s chuck box.  They were simply used for every task that surfaced from the processing of game and livestock, to slicing up veggies if users were lucky enough to have some, and to cutting off a chuck of the pot roast for dinner.

The clip point blade profile is one of my absolute favorites, they can be used to tackle most any task needing a sharpened edge, and they simply look amazing – don’t they!?  Thus, I had to bring one to life with some improvements over the historical originals that were everywhere back in the day.

While the historical steel of the day was easy to sharpen, it was soft wearing out the edge quickly and corroded easily.  I’ve chosen to use Sandvik 14c28n stainless steel on SlicKnives’ clip point design, so that our customers have a good edge to get the work done, can still touch up the blade quickly when needed, and to take the worry of waking up after packing an animal out only to find out that you forgot to clean and oil your knife after getting back to camp.  Waking up to find rust on your knife’s edge isn't ideal.

One of the scariest features of most historical knives of that period was that the short handle/grip allowed the user’s hand to slip down onto the edge if they weren’t being extremely careful.  And even then, accidents still happened.  I’ve brought SlicKnives’ large, ergonomic grip using burlap/jute Micarta scales onto our design to help provide the opportunity for safer handling and incorporated some jimping along the spine to help offer a solid purchase on the blade when needed.

If you’re interested in learning more about SlicKnives’ clip point blade design, the good news is that it is available today!  Check our ClipPoint 4.5 to see if this fits your needs!

Thank you,
Brendon
